The Deccan Plateau

... lies between the mountain ranges known as the Eastern and Western Ghats. It covers 422,000 square kilometres (163,000 sqare miles) – 43% of India's total land area. It reflects the triangular shape of the Indian subcontinent, and rises to 100 metres (330 ft) in the north (the base of the triangle) and more than 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) in the south (the apex).

The plateau has given its name to a wide variety of entities in India, including airlines, trains, sports events and commercial enterprises. The Hyderabad Deccan Chargers was a cricket franchise, owned by the Deccan Chronicle newspaper group, which won the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2009 – the competition's second year. The franchise was dissolved in 2012 and replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
